Effective January 1st, Pennsylvania became the first state in the country to require residential fire sprinklers in all newly constructed one- and two-story family homes. Safety officials say the law will save lives; home builders and sellers say the requirement will add thousands of dollars to the price of a new home and hurt a recovering housing market.
